On your way to sigiriya you visit the Pinnawela elephant orphanage,opened to save abandoned elephants and is how home to over 65 baby elephants.Afterwards,continue on to explore the spectacular rock fortress of Sigiriya.built in the 5th centuary A.D to fend off a feared invasion,the rock fortress is now a “world heritage site” atop the 200m high rock ,the fortress also features some amazing examples of ancient architecture and art.
Your full day tour of the ancient cities visits Anuradhapura,the ancient set of the Sinhalese kings,plus the Buddhist sanctuary of mihintale and you also see the magnificent 12 metre high Aukana Buddha Statue.
Dating back to the firs centuary B>C ,the beautifull Dambulla cave temples are said to be the most impressive in all of Srilanka.Along the road to kandy you stop to visit one of the many beautifull spice gardens where Cinnamon,Cardamom,pepper creepers plus many other spices trees,plants and creepers are grown.Afterwards witness the manufacture of batik prints at a local factory.This evening,enjoy a colourful cultural show featuring traditional Srilanka Dancers.
Exploring kandy you visit the markets square and upper lake drive ,plus a handicrafts centre and gems museum.wander through the beautifull peradeniya botanical gardens before a visit to one of the most sacred Buddhist sites “Dalada Maligawa” the temple of tyhe sacred tooth relic of lord Buddha.
A spectacular drive to takes you into the heart of Tea country ,to the mountains retreat of Nuwara eliya-known as little England for its rose gardens ,hedges,colonial tudor houses and mild climate-a very picturesque sight indeed.
The stunning scenery continues as you make your way down the coast to yala national park.Nestled between the hills and the coast.Yala NP is home to a variety of wildlife and has one of the world densest leopard population-the best time to spot leopard is from February through th july.
An early morning jeep safari in yala national park takes you in search of leopards and elephants,as well as the many other anaimals that inhabit the park,such as buffalo ,deer ,crocodiles and monkeys.Inthe afternoon you start travelling along the beautifull coastline and the tropical beaches of the south coast,to the old fortress at Galle.this old Dutch heritage town is your home for the next two nights.
Today is at leisure to wander through the historic town of Galle,take a swim or enjoy an ayurvedic massage and spa.
Today you make your way to Colombo,where you are transfer downtown or to Colombo airport.
